I cannot imagine a better subject for an experiment in text mining than Spanish American modernismo. Nothing resembles more a self-contained literary period–with very specific linguistic characteristics and topics–than this turn of the century movement. Even though contemporary critics never tire of explaining that it was far from a monolithic movement, the term modernismo never fails to bring to mind specific words and images.

I will be employing the R and Python programming languages to study the work of Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera (1859-1895) in relation to other important modernista authors, including, of course, Rubén Darío.
